Steward's Log - Still Waking Up | Entry No. 10

Verse 1 Monday rolled in, didn’t ask for a plan Coffee went cold in a dirt-stained hand Strawberry roots drying out in a tray Moved a little too slow, watched ‘em fade away Greenhouse steady, didn’t need a word Just quiet green doing what it’s learned We showed back up with mud on our boots Trying to catch up to something taking root Pre-Chorus Feels like motion, but it’s hard to tell Like something’s shifting underneath the shell Chorus We’re still waking up, yeah we’re coming alive Got a little more grit, got a little more drive Don’t need answers, just a place to stand Dirt on our boots and a shake in our hands Still waking up, yeah we’re riding it out Some things you feel but you can’t call out If it’s slow, we don’t give it up We’re still waking up Verse 2 Under that mulch, saw the threads run deep Something down there didn’t stay asleep Steel hit soil where it used to fight Now it sinks in easy, something ain’t right… or right Wind picked up off a naked field Watched topsoil drift like it ain’t no big deal But we felt that loss in the back of our chest Like watching something leave you can’t replace Pre-Chorus Push too hard, or just let it ride Every move’s got a different side Chorus We’re still waking up, yeah we’re coming alive Got a little more grit, got a little more drive Don’t need answers, just a place to stand Dirt on our boots and a shake in our hands Still waking up, yeah we’re riding it out Some things you feel but you can’t call out If it’s slow, we don’t give it up We’re still waking up Bridge Five-gallon bucket, lid cracked slow Something growing that we don’t control Might be right or it might fall flat But you don’t learn nothing standing back World’s on fire on a screen somewhere But it goes dead quiet out here Just us, this ground, this breath, this dust And a whole lot riding on a little bit of trust Final Chorus We’re still waking up, yeah we’re coming alive Spring in our bones and a hard-earned stride Don’t see clear but we feel it move Through the roots below and the morning dew Still waking up, ain’t backing down Got one foot in and one foot on ground If it’s slow, we don’t give it up We’re still waking up Outro Yeah… still waking up Ain’t done yet
