Keep the Horizon

V6-MINI

There was a day beneath the fig tree, When all I loved was swept away. I sat alone with all my sorrow, Not knowing how to rise and pray. But through the clouds, You sent a rainbow, A gentle light across the sky. Though I could not see tomorrow, Your love was standing by my side. You saw me there beneath the fig tree, You knew the tears I could not hide. Before I ever turned to find You, My Shepherd, You were at my side. Through every valley, every shadow, When all my strength had slipped away, Your goodness followed every footstep, Your mercy never turned away. I brought my sins before Your mercy, The hidden wounds, the years of shame. You called me from the dark behind me, And gently spoke my name again. You taught my heart to leave behind The things I never could amend. To set my hand upon the plow, Lord, And trust the road Your hands have planned. You keep the horizon; I keep my eyes on You. When I cannot see tomorrow, Your promises are true. I need not know the pathway Or what the years may bring. Your goodness and Your kindness Will follow where You lead. I climbed the watchtower seeking answers, And searched the distance for a sign. But You were calling me to stillness, To trust Your wisdom over mine. You said to guard what You have given: My faith, my family, and peace. To stand with love in daily duties, And let my restless striving cease. Like Mary seated at Your feet, Lord, Teach me to choose the better part. To hear Your Word and live its meaning, And treasure all within my heart. When all the weight of life surrounds me, When anxious thoughts fill up my mind, Remind me that one thing is needed: To stay with You and leave fear behind. You keep the horizon; I keep my eyes on You. When I cannot see tomorrow, Your promises are true. I need not know the pathway Or what the years may bring. Your goodness and Your kindness Will follow where You lead. I know the love I have for my child, The gifts I long to freely give. Yet You, my Father, love me deeper, And teach me how Your child should live. Not by my strength or understanding, Nor by the plans that I have made, But with the humble trust of children Who know their Father will not fade. When shadows gather close around me, When old regrets begin to rise, I’ll turn my heart toward Your compassion And lift to You my weary eyes. For peace is not a life without sorrow, Nor roads where storms will never start. It is the calm of Your abiding: My Shepherd dwelling in my heart. You keep the horizon; I keep my eyes on You. When I cannot see tomorrow, Your promises are true. I need not know the pathway Or what the years may bring. Your goodness and Your kindness Will follow where You lead. And when my earthly road is ending, When I have walked my final mile, May I look back and see Your mercy Through every valley, every trial. For all my days Your love pursued me Through every joy and every tear. And now I come into Your dwelling, Where every sorrow disappears. You kept the horizon; You carried me all through. Every step along the journey, Your love was strong and true. Now I see the promised glory, Beyond what mortal eyes can see. Your goodness and Your kindness Have led me home to Thee. Your goodness and Your kindness Have led me home to Thee.
