[Instrumental Intro - Eerie fingerpicked acoustic, dissonant undertones] [Verse 1] There's a town out past the pines Where the road just disappears They say it got its name From the sins it holds down here [Verse 2] Built the church on hallowed ground Or so the legends say But the earth beneath was hungry And the townsfolk gotta pay [Chorus] Welcome to Absolution Where the dead don't stay down Where the shadows move at sunset And something sleeps beneath the town They say fire cleanses all We sow blood into the dirt If you try to leave before your time You'll face a fate that's worse [Verse 3] The preacher knew the old words The ones that shouldn't be spoken Painted symbols in the cellar And the Old Gods were awoken [Verse 4] When they burned him in his home They thought they killed the rot But what was dead can never die And now the town is marked [Chorus] Welcome to Absolution Where prayers don't reach the sky Where the church bells ring at midnight And nobody questions why They built this town on something That was never meant to wake I pray the Lord my soul to keep But sacrifices must be made [Bridge] The wind is always howling There's rot in the meat He visits in your dreams at night It's how He likes to feed [Verse 5] Every generation learns There's a price for living here They dig the graves a little deeper But the bodies still appear [Verse 6] The bartender sees it in the glass The sheriff feels it in his bones The widow hears it in the walls Of what used to be her home [Final Chorus] This is Absolution Where nothing's ever clean Where the earth beneath is breathing And it's hungry, can't you see? We thought we served a righteous God But something older held the reins In Absolution, we're all damned here We pray in someone else's name [Outro -whispered, eerie] Don't come to Absolution Don't follow the road that bends 'Cause the town don't let you leave here And the hunger never ends The sheriff's always watching Justice must be done God has no power here The Devil's already won
