Paine’s Creek is definitely the most sentimental song on the album, it’s from a lovely poem that my wife wrote about her sister and their childhood visits to Cape Cod. And so I wanted to give it this nostalgic dreamy lean, and little flourishes like the birds chirping at the beginning and the kids singing the lead-in to the final chorus feel so perfect with it too. I also love the fuzzy loose guitar in the middle and end, that's another dreamy element that feels right. Lyrically, the line “always carrying more than we need” really hit me emotionally, it's probably my favorite line in the poem, and the double meaning there. So I had to repeat it a few times and turn it into a center of gravity of the song. Just a lovely poem and I hope the song does it justice. Good job Caity!
