Ghost of the Pacific
(Verse 1) From the yards of Mitsubishi, in the days of rising sun, The Aoba took to water, her long journey had begun. Aoba-class, a heavy heart, with eight-inch guns so grand, A symbol of the Empire, a force across the land. (Chorus) Through the China seas she sailed, a silent, watchful eye, Then the storm of war descended, beneath a troubled sky. From Coral Sea to Savo Isle, her guns began to roar, The Aoba fought for victory, on distant, bloody shore. (Verse 2) Guam and Wake she conquered, in the war's initial blaze, Then Coral Sea's confusion, in a smoky, watery haze. At Savo Island's darkness, a stunning victory won, But fate would turn against her, beneath the setting sun. (Chorus) Through the China seas she sailed, a silent, watchful eye, Then the storm of war descended, beneath a troubled sky. From Coral Sea to Savo Isle, her guns began to roar, The Aoba fought for victory, on distant, bloody shore. (Bridge) Cape Esperance's fury, a night of fire and fear, The Aoba took a beating, her hull was torn and near To sinking in the ocean, but she limped away that night, Back to port for mending, to continue in the fight. (Verse 3) Through refits and repairs, she bravely sailed once more, But the tide of war was turning, against the Emperor. No longer hunting battleships, but carrying vital freight, The Aoba faced the onslaught, and met a bitter fate. (Outro) Bombed and burned and broken, in the final, desperate days, The Aoba met her ending, in the ocean's watery maze. A memory of conflict, a tale of war and pain, The Aoba rests in silence, beneath the ocean's reign.
