[Verse 1: Throaty powerhouse female lead, raw and strong over the drums] Propellers turning on the edge of the ice Pilot says "last call, I won't ask twice" Eleven of us staying on the bottom of the map Four months of night and a radio on my lap Everybody back home says I'm running away From a man and a house and a ring and a day They can say what they like from a warm little town I'm watching the plane and I'm not going down [Pre-Chorus: Throaty powerhouse female lead] There's an envelope inside the pilot's bag With my name on the line and a little red flag [Chorus: Throaty powerhouse female lead, full voice] I'm gonna winter over Let the last plane go without me By the time the sun comes back, I'll be through I'm gonna winter over, and then winter's over [Verse 2: Throaty powerhouse female lead, harder, the guitars wide] Minus sixty on the walk to the shack Stars so loud that I can't look back Radio crackles with a voice from the coast I patch the call through, and I'm the girl they need most Nobody knows that the papers are signed Nobody knows what I'm leaving behind Not running from it, I'm running it out Four months of dark till there's nothing left of doubt [Pre-Chorus: Throaty powerhouse female lead] There's an envelope inside the pilot's bag With my name on the line and a little red flag [Chorus: Throaty powerhouse female lead, full voice] I'm gonna winter over Let the last plane go without me By the time the sun comes back, I'll be through I'm gonna winter over, and then winter's over [Bridge: Throaty powerhouse female lead, low and huge, the drones wide open] Day thirty, day sixty, day ninety, day more Frost on my lashes and the dark at the door Midwinter dinner and the cook plays a song Eleven strangers, and I'm right where I belong Nobody asks me, nobody pries Just the stars and the cold and the dark in my eyes I don't miss you, I miss the light And I'm getting it back on the other side [Last Section: Throaty powerhouse female lead, first sunrise, one long note as the sun clears the ice, band comes up with the light] Four months later on the edge of the world A line of gold, and I'm a brand-new girl [Final Chorus: throaty powerhouse, the whole band, biggest voice of the song] I'm gonna winter over Let the last plane go without me By the time the sun comes back, I'll be through I'm gonna winter over, and then winter's over [End]
