Down by the bayou where the cypress weep Lived Bayou Betty with a soul so deep She'd hum with the frogs 'neath the moonlight's glow Her kindness bloomed where the moss did grow She rocked on her porch with a heart of gold Tales of the South in her voice retold The fireflies danced in her gentle gaze Her laugh was a hymn in the swamp's sweet haze Oh Betty of the bayou So kind and true A beacon of light 'neath the skies so blue Her love was a river It would never run dry Bayou Betty now ascends to the sky The swamp fell silent The wind held its breath As Betty crossed over the veil of death But the heavens opened The stars took flight She rose like a symphony into the night Now angels hum where her spirit glides Her kindness echoes where the river hides A melody timeless So soft So pure Bayou Betty's love will forever endure Oh Betty of the bayou So kind and true A beacon of light 'neath the skies so blue Her love was a river It would never run dry Bayou Betty now ascends to the sky
