Verse 1 I went out to hang the Christmas lights, Like I do every year, I had a ladder and a staple gun And absolutely no fear. Then one strand worked, the next one didn’t, The third one nearly blew, And somehow half the neighborhood Lost all their power too. Chorus It’s beginning to look a lot like trouble, Everywhere I go, There’s a reindeer hanging upside down, And Santa’s in the snow. I’ve got extension cords from here to Mars, The electric meter’s seeing double— Yes, it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, And Christmas looks like trouble! Verse 2 We bought ourselves a Christmas tree, The finest one they had, It looked magnificent on the Christmas lot— At home it looked half dead. We turned it left, we turned it right, We shoved it toward the wall, Then someone hung one ornament And watched the whole thing fall. Chorus It’s beginning to look a lot like trouble, Everywhere I go, There’s a star that won’t stay on the tree And tinsel on the dog. There’s broken glass and Christmas balls Rolling underneath the rubble— Yes, it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, And Christmas looks like trouble! Verse 3 My wife said, “Put the presents out.” I said, “Where did you hide ’em?” She said, “The place I told you not to forget.” Well, that sure helped me find ’em. I checked the attic, checked the garage, Looked underneath the bed, Then found ’em where I hid ’em myself— In a box marked CHRISTMAS: SHED. Bridge The cookies burned, the ham is dry, The cat climbed up the tree, The smoke alarm is singing Christmas carols in B-flat to me. The relatives are coming, There’s nowhere left to park— And that inflatable snowman Keeps collapsing after dark! Verse 4 Now Grandpa’s sleeping in my chair, The kids are running wild, Somebody gave a drum set To a very energetic child. The batteries aren’t included, Thank the Lord for little things— Then Grandma found some batteries… And now the little drummer sings! FINAL CHORUS It’s beginning to look a lot like trouble, But somehow every year, We burn the food and break the lights And everybody still comes here. And when I see that crazy bunch, I wouldn’t trade the struggle— ’Cause it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas… And Christmas SHOULD be trouble! TAG Now somebody unplug Santa— He’s face-down in the yard again.
