That was when I learned there was a child growing inside me. I was happy. But there were some difficult times too. Some days, the nausea was so bad I could hardly move. And as my belly grew bigger, working in the rice fields gradually became more difficult. ...Though I still went out to the fields anyway. One day, I was working in the fields like I always did, when suddenly my belly started hurting. I wondered what was happening, and then I realized the baby was coming. Everyone was terribly worried about me. But... she was born safely. A healthy little girl. To tell the truth, we could have used another pair of male hands, so I had thought a boy would be nice. But once she was born, none of that seemed to matter anymore. She had been born safe and healthy. That alone was enough. After that, the three of us lived together. While she was still little, I'd work in the rice fields with her on my back. She was heavy. It was hard work. But... having her right there with me made me feel at ease. A few years later, we were blessed with another child. That time, I think I was tilling the fields. ...What? You're asking if I was in the fields again? Well, what else was I supposed to do? Everyone looked busy. This child was born safe and healthy too. Another little girl. And so there was me, my husband, and our two daughters. A family of four. Both the older one and the younger one grew little by little, and eventually they learned how to work in the rice fields too. When they were small, I used to carry them on my back. But before I knew it, I was the one being helped by them. They grew up strong and healthy. Both of them lived and grew well. What a blessing that was. Father... Mother... I wonder if this was how you felt too. The children are healthy, and they're here with me today. That's enough, isn't it? I thought I had nothing left to wish for. ...And once I thought that, somehow... all the tension just left me.
