A little fir tree was born in the forest, It grew in the forest. In winter and summer it was slender, Green. The snowstorm sang her a song: "Sleep, little Christmas tree, bye-bye!" The frost wrapped her in snow: "Look, don't freeze!" A cowardly little gray bunny was jumping under the Christmas tree. Sometimes a wolf, an angry wolf, would trot past. Listen! Snow creaks under the runners in the dense forest. A shaggy-legged horse hurries and runs. A horse is carrying firewood, And in the firewood a peasant has cut down our Christmas tree, Right down to the root. Now she, all dressed up, has come to us for the holiday, and brought much, much joy to the children.
