No Helmet Generation

Out the door at 9 AM Didn’t say where, didn’t say when BMX and a half-dead chain Jump the curb, feel no pain Gas station snacks and a pocket of change Drinking hose water like it’s champagne Sunburnt backs and a bad idea Every single day like “what could go wrong here?” No rules, no maps, no “text me back” Just a vague “don’t die” and a busted track No helmet, no fear, just scars we wear Parents said “be back”—they didn’t care when We raised ourselves on scraped-up knees And learned real fast there’s no guarantees No seatbelt clicks, just windows down Middle fingers up to the whole damn town If we made it out, then we don’t complain We’re the no helmet generation Climbed too high on a rusted rail Shopping carts on a downhill trail Firecrackers in a mailbox slot Run like hell when it all goes pop Skipped every rule we were supposed to know Streetlight curfew? Yeah… kinda so Fought, fell, laughed, then did it again Common sense was a “maybe,” not a trend No helmets, no pads, no safety net Just “walk it off” and don’t forget No helmet, no fear, just scars we wear Parents said “be back”—they didn’t care when We raised ourselves on scraped-up knees And learned real fast there’s no guarantees No seatbelt clicks, just windows down Middle fingers up to the whole damn town If we made it out, then we don’t complain We’re the no helmet generation Yeah, we probably should’ve died But somehow we survived On bad decisions and luck And not giving a— (cut) Doctors said, “you’re a miracle case” We said, “nah, just fell on our face” Every scar got a story to tell Every story ends in “oh well” No fear! No brakes! Bad calls! Mistakes! No rules! No shame! We’d do it all the same! No helmet, no fear, just scars we wear Parents said “be back”—they didn’t care when We raised ourselves on scraped-up knees And turned out fine… well, mostly No seatbelt clicks, just windows down Laughing loud while we crashed through town If we made it out, then we don’t complain We’re the no helmet generation No helmets! No fear! Still here! Still here! Somehow alive—yeah, that’s our explanation… NO HELMET GENERATION!
