Too afraid to call bullshit

Too Afraid to Call Bullshit: The Cult of Authority It happens every damn time. Some authority figure—a politician, a CEO, a so-called expert, a spiritual guru with a suspicious bank account—stands before the masses and sells a dream. Not a real, tangible, functional solution—just vibes. Maybe it’s a policy that doesn’t work, a war that doesn’t need to happen, a system that’s broken beyond repair, but nobody dares to say it. Because saying it—calling bullshit—is dangerous. The politicians have too much power on the line. The media doesn’t want to lose access. The employees want to keep their jobs. The citizens don’t want to admit they’ve been duped. The followers don’t want to believe their leader is full of it. So, the lie grows legs, and suddenly, it’s sprinting. The emperor isn’t just naked—he’s strutting through history, through boardrooms, through government offices, through entire civilizations, while the whole world applauds. Then, inevitably, someone—usually a nobody, an outsider, a whistleblower, a person with nothing to lose—mutters the forbidden truth: “This is bullshit.” And like a crack in a dam, reality comes pouring through. The illusion shatters. The approval ratings drop. The revolution sparks. The followers scatter. And the once-loyal believers scramble to rewrite history, pretending they always saw it coming. But here’s the kicker: it only takes one person to start the collapse. One voice, one moment of honesty. Yet, time and time again, people bite their tongues, nod along, and pretend to see the emperor’s new clothes because they’re too afraid to be the first to call it. So the real question is—what are you too afraid to call bullshit on?
