LOOKING GLASS [Intro – 8-bit startup tone] I touched the glass. It gave. [Verse 1] Same room. Wrong weight. Dust climbing upward while the furniture waits. My reflection moved half a second too soon. I raised my hand. She left the room. One square forward. Two squares gone. I started running— the floor moved on. [Pre-Chorus] RED. WHITE. MOVE. WAIT. Every rule arrives one second late. [Chorus] LOOKING GLASS! LET ME THROUGH! I KEEP BECOMING WHAT YOU NEED ME TO. RUN ALL DAY. GET NOWHERE FAST. HOW DO YOU OUTRUN WHAT'S ALREADY PASSED? LOOKING GLASS! [8-Bit Break] MOVE! MOVE! MOVE! [Verse 2] Pawn in the morning. Queen by night. Someone keeps moving me one square right. Crossed through the wood. My name went first. Then why I came. Then which way hurt. The signs say GO. My feet say STAY. I ask tomorrow— they hand me yesterday. [Pre-Chorus] RED. WHITE. MOVE— No. RED. WHITE— Which one was I? I know this. I know— [GLITCH] [Chorus] LOOKING GLASS! LET ME THROUGH! I KEEP BECOMING WHAT YOU NEED ME TO. RUN ALL DAY. GET NOWHERE FAST. HOW DO YOU OUTRUN WHAT'S ALREADY PASSED? LOOKING GLASS! [Dance-Punk Break – chip arpeggio / tom fills] LEFT! RIGHT! FORWARD! BACK! [Gang] CHECK! CHECK! CHECK! [Bitcrushed Voice] Legal move. Wrong reason. Legal move. Wrong reason. Legal— [HARD CUT] [Bridge – square-wave bass only] Here's the trick. Nobody tells you. You don't cross the board. The board crosses you. Every square takes something small. Your name. Your nerve. The sound of your own voice before you learned which version they preferred. Then you reach the other side. They put a crown where your name used to be. Everybody cheers. You won. [Silence] I did? [BUILD – chip arp returns] I don't remember asking for a crown. [Final Chorus] LOOKING GLASS! LET ME THROUGH! I'M DONE BECOMING WHAT YOU NEED ME TO. RUN ALL DAY? I'LL LEAVE THE TRACK. FLIP THE BOARD— TAKE MY NAME BACK. LOOKING GLASS! LOOKING GLASS! [Gang Shouts] FLIP! THE! BOARD! [Outro – corrupted victory music] CHECKMATE. ... I touched the glass. It didn't give.
