I paint a picture on the bedroom floor, Of all the things I shouldn’t do anymore. I got a manual for self-defeat, Color-coded, laminated, nice and neat. I’m standing right on the edge tonight, Looking for a reason to start a fight. With myself, of course, because who else is there? Just me, my shadow, and a folding chair. I fight the urge to repeat the crime, But I’ve scheduled my failure right on time. I’m a creature of comfort, if comfort means pain, Dancing like a fool in the plastic rain. I got a little voice and it’s loud and clear, Says, "Why be safe when you can live in fear?" I look in the mirror, give a little nod, And try to convince myself that I’m a god. I’m breaking the habit of breaking my mind, I’m looking for something that I’ll never find. Tonight I am turning the wheel away, But let's be honest, it’s just for today. Yeah, I’m breaking the habit, I’m clearing the slate, No more excuses for being this late. I planned the escape, I’m ready to run, But ruining progress is just too much fun. I’m locking the doors, I’m turning off the screen, Trying to become a brand-new machine. But the old software keeps running the show, And there’s a glitch in the system that I already know. You call it damage, I call it style, Walking into chaos with a vintage smile. I don't need a reason to complicate, I’ll invent a crisis right at the gate. I keep a list of the promises made, And watch them like colors that start to fade. If peace arrives, I’ll give it a chance, But right now I’m booked for a panic dance. I keep a spare excuse for the mess I expect, If the world behaves politely, I still double-check. The cycle is spinning, the logic is dry, I’m ready to wave my old habits goodbye. I’m breaking the habit of breaking my mind, I’m looking for something that I’ll never find. Tonight I am turning the wheel away, But let's be honest, it’s just for today. I’m breaking the habit, I’m clearing the slate, No more excuses for being this late. I planned the escape, I’m ready to run, But ruining progress is just too much fun. Baby, I’m trying, I’m doing my best, To give my anxieties a little rest. I keep receipts for the tears that I shed, Just to remember what the old voice said. Call it a lifestyle, call it a phase, I’ve been stuck in this habit for ninety-four days. I’m turning the page, I’m drawing the line— Everything is completely fine. I’m breaking the habit of breaking my mind, I’m looking for something that I’ll never find. Tonight I am turning the wheel away, But let's be honest, it’s just for today. I’m breaking the habit, I’m clearing the slate, No more excuses for being this late. I planned the escape, I’m ready to run, But ruining progress is just too much fun! So yeah... Habit broken. Almost. We'll try again tomorrow. At nine.
