One who walks in his uprightness fears YAHWEH: but the twisted one, his ways shame Him. From the mouth of the foolish sprouts of pride: but the lips of the wise will guard them. [Chorus - full harmony, joyful, open] Where there are no cattle, the feed trough is clean: but many crops come by the strength of the ox. A trustworthy witness won’t lie: but a false witness will spout lies. The scoffer seeks wisdom, and there is none: but wisdom comes easy for him who understands. Go far away from a foolish man, because you won’t know the lips of knowledge. The wisdom of the sensible is to understand his way: but the foolishness of fools is treachery. A guilt-offering will intervene for fools, but favor is among the upright. The heart knows his own bitterness; and no stranger will share in its joy. [Verse 2 - more energy, ad-libs] The house of the wicked will be destroyed: the tent of the upright will blossom. There is a way that seems right to man, but at its end are the ways of death. Even in laughter the heart may ache; and the end of that gladness may be sorrowful. A wayward heart will be satisfied with its ways: and a good man gets satisfaction from himself. The foolish believes every word: but the clever person understands his steps. A wise man fears, and turns away from evil: but the fool becomes enraged and is confident. The evildoers will bow before good people; and the wicked at the gates of a righteous one. The poor will be hated even by his own friend: but the rich has many friends. He that shames his friend is is a sinner: but he that has mercy on the poor, he is happy. Don’t those that plot evil go astray? but those who plan goodness will reap kindness and truth. In all work there is profit: but the talk of the lips brings only loss. [Verse 3- same as verse 2] The crown of the wise is their wealth: but the foolishness of fools is only foolishness. A true witness rescues lives: but a deceitful witness speaks lies. In the fear of YAHWEH is a powerful stronghold: and for his children will it be a shelter. The fear of YAHWEH is the source of life, to turn one away from the deadly traps. In many people is a king’s glory: but without a regime, leadership is ruin. Being slow to anger goes with great understanding: but a short-tempered person exalts foolishness. A healing heart gives health to the body, but jealousy rots the bones. He that oppresses the poor disgraces his Maker: but those who are kind to the needy honor Him. The wicked is driven away in his wickedness: but the righteous has hope in his death. Wisdom will reside in an understanding heart: but among fools it's made known. [Breakdown - bass and guitar only, handclaps] Charity exalts a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.
