she gets up in the morning and pours herself a cup of coffee with a little bourbon mix Cigarette smoke drifting through the air, ashes falling down with fiery flicks The house is in tatters with newspapers on the floor She walks over them, she doesn't care anymore He sees her in the kitchen wondering what has gone wrong He hears the radio playing a sad country song He looks around to and tries to get the courage to say But all he can do is hang his head down and pray Chorus Their love traveled down a long desert highway Lost in the sands and only going one way Heat not melting their hearts like it did in the past a mirage in the distance fading fast They lost their love on a long desert highway [instrumental] She goes through the motions of every day life He looks at her and can’t believe she’s his wife That young girl he met in high school Now looks at him like he's just a fool he leaves for work happy to be away she probably wishes he won’t come back today what happened that it turned out this way how did their life get in such disarray [chorus] Their love traveled down a long desert highway Lost in the sands and only going one way Heat not melting their hearts like it did in the past a mirage in the distance fading fast They lost their love on a long desert highway a long desert highway.
