[Intro] [Spoken] ("The Lord is close to the broken-hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.") [Verse 1] Peter came to Jesus with a number in his hand, "How many times you gotta forgive before you don't have to again?" He thought that seven was a generous kind of grace, But Jesus looked at him and said, "You haven't even scratched the face." Seventy times seven, that ain't math, that's a posture, It's a daily death to pride before you even eat your breakfast, It's releasing what they owe you till the debt becomes a gift, The hardest kind of freedom is the kind that you can't lift. [Pre-Chorus] 'Cause unforgiveness feels like power when you're holding all the pain, Feels like justice when you're keeping every scar and every stain, But it's a chain around the ankle of the one who won't let go, And the only one still bleeding is the one who told you no. [Chorus] Seventy times seven, that's the call, Not because they earned it, not at all, But because you've been forgiven more than you could ever owe, Seventy times seven, let it go. Ephesians 4, forgive the way He forgave you, Colossians 3, bear with each other all the way through, Grace ain't just a gift you receive and keep on the shelf, Seventy times seven starts with giving it yourself. [Verse 2] I knew a woman who held thirty years of rage, Every morning woke up turning the same burning page, The man who wronged her never lost a single night of sleep, But she was paying interest on a debt she chose to keep. The day she chose to lay it down she said it felt like dying, Said forgiveness wasn't freeing him, it was freeing her from trying, To carry something heavy God never asked her to hold, Seventy times seven, that's how you're finally whole. [Verse 3] And what about the mirror, what about your own name? The times you fell so hard you swore you'd never be the same, You've begged the Lord for mercy and He gave it without measure, But you're still sentencing yourself like your shame is something to treasure. Bear with one another, Colossians says it clear, That one another includes the face that you see in the mirror, If God forgave it, who are you to hold the trial? Seventy times seven, and that includes your file. [Bridge] It ain't a feeling, it's a choice you make again, Again tomorrow, and the day after, and then, It ain't excusing what they did or saying it was right, It's handing God the verdict and refusing to stay in the fight. He bore it all on Calvary, every sin, every wrong, So we could walk in freedom and forgiveness all along, The cross was seventy times seven times infinity, And that same grace He gave to you, He's asking you to free. [Outro] Seventy times seven… (let it go) Not because it's easy… (because He said so) The most radical thing you'll ever do with all your pain, Is forgive the way you've been forgiven, again and again. Seventy times seven… And then again.
