Parallel Pine Trees

[Verse 1] Backyard kid with a big brain question Plastic cup juice Metaphysic obsession They said "picture a tree" I went pine You went peach Already driftin' at the very first lesson You got three million leaves in your head I got soccer ball scars instead Sun through branches Broken lattice Your light bends different through your habits Same word Whole other movie instead Little prism in the hallway window Dust motes dance in the after-school glow You see halos I see rainbows Tryna freeze the frame But it won't hold Every angle personal Stubborn Local [Pre-Chorus] You say "green " I see grocery aisles You see mountainside for miles We both nod like "yeah I see" But really it's a fragile treaty [Chorus] We don't see the same tree We just share a name See? Your shade My shadow Never gonna line up clean We don't see the same tree Only overlap partially Your sun My sky Perfect picture stays a dream [Verse 2] Teacher talkin' 'bout the speed of light I'm doodlin' branches in the margins Tryna get it right If your math on the rays Is a fraction out of phase My leaf shines brighter in my sight You count volume I count summers You run numbers I run colors You trace photons I trace mothers Callin' us in from the swing-set thunder Same bark Different stories under Inside eye like a homegrown lens Built from cereal boxes and childhood friends Even if we sync all the physics Clone every single statistic You still won't feel how my wrist hits the fence [Pre-Chorus] You say "wind " I hear screen door slam You hear choir over open land We both point up and agree But our frames never fully meet [Chorus] We don't see the same tree We just share a name See? Your shade My shadow Never gonna line up clean We don't see the same tree Only overlap partially Your sun My sky Perfect picture stays a dream [Bridge] Maybe that's the magic in the gap All that static in the mental map Every "almost" image that we trade Is a bridge built out of mismatch faith You send pixels I send prayers You send angles I send stares Right there In the error In the glare That's where "us" appears in air (oh yeah) [Chorus] We don't see the same tree We just share a name See? Your shade My shadow Never gonna line up clean We don't see the same tree And that's why you interest me Your sun My sky We meet where they disagree
