[Verse 1] Come gather round and hear the tale of a doctor and her flame She sailed to a colony of rolling hills where the fog all knew her name Her grandmother was barely cold the headstone barely set When a voice came whispering from a lamp saying lassie we've not finished yet [Chorus] Oh the candle the candle the green eyed candle light It's been loving all the Crusher women for eight hundred lonely nights From grandmother to mother and now it's Beverly's turn Don't blow it out don't blow it out and let the phantom burn [Verse 2] He said his name was Ronin and he'd loved them all before Every woman in the Howard line going back to sixteen oh four He lived inside the candle flame he needed it to stay And if you took him to your bed he'd take your will away [Chorus] Oh the candle the candle the green eyed candle light It's been loving all the Crusher women for eight hundred lonely nights From grandmother to mother and now it's Beverly's turn Don't blow it out don't blow it out and let the phantom burn [Verse 3] She resigned from Starfleet she threw away the coat She was moaning at the weather vane while Picard read her note Troi said something isn't right Data checked the grave They found the old woman's corpse still warm and that's when things got brave [Chorus] Oh the candle the candle the green eyed candle light It's been loving all the Crusher women for eight hundred lonely nights From grandmother to mother and now it's Beverly's turn Don't blow it out don't blow it out and let the phantom burn [Bridge] Now Picard beamed down to save the day but the ghost threw him across the room Beverly was tangled up in lightning in her grandmother's living room She grabbed her phaser found her nerve and shot the candle dead The ghost screamed once and disappeared and nothing more was said [Final Chorus] Oh the candle the candle the green eyed candle light It loved every Crusher woman for eight hundred lonely nights But Beverly said no more and put the bastard out She's a doctor not a haunted girlfriend that's what Starfleet's all about [Spoken] Nobody on the Enterprise ever mentioned it again And that was probably for the best [End]
