The peak of all fools : Morning Glories on an Empty Day
On the balcony, in a small flower pot, A light blue morning glory has opened on the spot. Blooms in the morning, closes by the night, Living just a single day, drinking in the light. So bright, so vivid, all on its own... Listening to the laundry spin in a low tone, Nothing much to do on a Sunday at home. Sipping cold tea, looking at the clear sky, An empty day like this is the sweetest thing, oh my~ My father's words are lingering in my mind, "Maybe I should really move and leave this place behind~?" Though I've grown to like this quiet, sunny room, And watching the morning flowers start to bloom. "Don't let the soil dry until the flowers show," He explained so carefully how to make them grow. ...Suddenly I just wanted to hear his voice today, So I called him up with nothing special to say. Light blue morning glory, how many will bloom tomorrow~? Bound deep inside the bud, away from any sorrow, Opening so softly to greet the morning light, No need to rush, just grow in your own right~ Living out a single day, beautiful and bright~ "Dad? Oh, the morning glory is blooming just fine~" 'I see. Are you watering it every morning on time?' "Yep, perfectly! So, I don't really have a reason to call, but..." '...I see. Well, don't push yourself too hard. Keep up the good work.' ...Huh...? "Keep up the good work"...? Did Dad just say that...? Without calling me "the peak of all fools" like he always does...? Suddenly I feel so restless and out of place, Fumbling with my hands with a puzzled face...! "Hey Dad, it's kinda creepy when you're suddenly nice~ Are you feeling sick or something? Do you need advice~?" '..................' '...You really are... the peak of all fools.' "Ah! There it is! Haha~!" 'Eat well, and go to bed early.' Hehe... the phone hangs up, and the room goes quiet again. Dad is always so awkward, now as he was then~ "Keep up the good work," huh...? He was just worrying about me in his own way, And I couldn't even be honest with what I say. I really am the peak of all fools, it's true... Looking at the sunlight, my heart aches a little, too. Light blue morning glory, will you bloom again tomorrow~? Without letting anyone touch your quiet space, Closing up at dusk with such elegant grace~ Seemingly carefree, so delicate to see, Yet living out your destiny so earnestly~ Taking my breath away with your purity~ Under the blue sky, The next little bud points straight to the sun on high. "...Alright! Time to go hang out the laundry~" A wind chime rings once with a gentle chime, And a calm, crystal-clear summer day continues its time.
