[Verse 1] I put five counters on the desk, Three marked carbon, two marked O. Five is how many atoms; Two is how many kinds I know. An element has one kind of atom. It isn't every mixture with a name. Pure water has fixed composition; An element and compound aren't the same. [Chorus] Write it small, write it clear, Every letter matters here. Capital first; if there's a second, Lowercase is how we write it. [Verse 2] H for hydrogen, H small e for helium; Different symbols let me tell the difference. N small a is sodium, natrium in its past; A small u is gold, aurum leaves a trace. A plant and rock can share some elements, With different structures and combinations. Same building blocks in different places; So many possible arrangements. [Final Chorus] Write it small, write it clear, Every letter matters here. Capital first; if there's a second, Lowercase is how we write it.
