I Accidentally Colonized Mars

[Verse] I signed my name on a contract, Boarded a colony ship. Left behind a dying hometown For a one-way, thousand-year trip. They promised us a new beginning Beneath unfamiliar stars, Never thought I'd live to say: I accidentally colonized Mars. [Chorus] Oh, I accidentally colonized Mars, Built a town beneath the stars. Now there are voices in the canyons, And they know exactly who we are. Every night they call my name From the shadows, from afar. Lord forgive me, I accidentally colonized Mars. [Verse] We found strange caves beneath us, Older than the dust and stone, Covered in forgotten warnings Written by hands not our own. But we dug deeper for water, For fuel, for food, for parts, And something old awakened In the buried heart of Mars. [Chorus] Oh, I accidentally colonized Mars, Built a town beneath the stars. Now there are voices in the canyons, And they know exactly who we are. Every night they call my name From the shadows, from afar. Lord forgive me, I accidentally colonized Mars. [Bridge] Then the children started changing, Eyes like crimson flames. Gathering inside the crater, Whispering ancient names. One by one the settlers vanished, Leaving only shattered scars. By then it was too late— We had awakened Mars. [Final Chorus] Oh, I accidentally colonized Mars, Built a graveyard beneath the stars. Now the town is just an echo, And I'm the last one left to warn: If you hear singing in the canyons, Turn your ship and don't disembark. Lord forgive me, I accidentally colonized Mars. [Outro] The dust is at my window, And something waits in the dark... Beneath the beating heart of Mars.
