(Verse 1) I saw you shivering down at the county run A quiet little heap beneath the morning sun. You had a look that said, "Please don't walk away," Like every night was the long, cold end of the day. Now the gate's always open, you're safe inside the walls, But you still stand up the second that someone calls To your name, to the kitchen, or just when I move my chair, You've just gotta make sure that I'm still right here. (Chorus) They call you a Velcro Dog, you're the burr that sticks to my side The moment I sit down, you're the place where my shadow decides to hide. Must be the past you can't outrun, keeping watch over everyone Yeah, you're my Velcro Dog, my best friend, and I wouldn't trade that bond for anyone. (Verse 2) It's a trip to the bathroom, and you're guarding the door mat, A loyal sentry, wherever I'm at. I can't fold the laundry without a paw on my knee, And forget a solo shower, 'cause you're judging me. If I stand up to stretch, you've already beat me to the spot, A warm little dent where my phone's been caught. They say a dog's a human's best friend, but you're more like my skin, Always touching, always near, where do I end, where do you begin? (Chorus) They call you a Velcro Dog, you're the burr that sticks to my side The moment I sit down, you're the place where my shadow decides to hide. Must be the past you can't outrun, keeping watch over everyone Yeah, you're my Velcro Dog, my best friend, and I wouldn't trade that bond for anyone. (Bridge) Maybe it's not a burden, maybe it's the beautiful cost, Of every single moment that you felt lost. You're just making up for every day that you cried alone, Now you just need to know you've finally found a home. So follow me to the coffee pot, or the closet where I keep my shoes, It's just your own sweet, furry way of saying "I choose you." (Chorus) They call you a Velcro Dog, you're the burr that sticks to my side The moment I sit down, you're the place where my shadow decides to hide. Must be the past you can't outrun, keeping watch over everyone Yeah, you're my Velcro Dog, my best friend, and I wouldn't trade that bond for anyone. (Outro) My best friend... my Velcro Dog.
