[Verse 1] Bell rings Rust on the bike chain singing Back tire rubbing on the frame But it still rolls Bookbag Threw it on the kitchen chair Mom asking "where you going?" "I don't really know" Cut through the alley by the wire fence Kick up dust Feel rich in my head Pockets light Heart heavy with plans Trying to be more than a kid with his hands out [Chorus] I was riding through the hood just dreaming Tires squeak But the handlebars gleaming Tryna stack a little cash in a coffee can So I don't gotta ask my parents for a hand Pedaling fast past all that trouble Eyes on the curb Mind on the hustle Just a kid with a chain and a hopeful plan So I don't gotta ask my parents for a hand (yeah) [Verse 2] Front yard Cousin got the dice out rolling He calling me over like "play" But I keep going Old head Washing cars on the corner Says "Grab a rag I’ll split the pay" Soap on my Jordans Sun going down My shirt all wet Four crumpled bills in my right front leg Smell of gas at the station Counting again Feel like I finally did something myself [Chorus] I was riding through the hood just dreaming Tires squeak But the handlebars gleaming Tryna stack a little cash in a coffee can So I don't gotta ask my parents for a hand Pedaling fast past all that trouble Eyes on the curb Mind on the hustle Just a kid with a chain and a hopeful plan So I don't gotta ask my parents for a hand (oh, oh) [Bridge] Streetlights flicker on I’m heading home Chain pops once But it holds Got sweat on my face and soap on my clothes Still proud though Still proud though Count it twice at my bedroom desk Hear my folks talk loud through the vent I whisper "I’mma help with the rent One day Yeah One day" [Chorus] I was riding through the hood just dreaming Tires squeak But the handlebars gleaming Tryna stack a little cash in a coffee can So I don't gotta ask my parents for a hand Pedaling fast past all that trouble Eyes on the curb Mind on the hustle Just a kid with a chain and a hopeful plan So I don't gotta ask my parents for a hand (Just a kid with a chain and a hopeful plan)
