My Prayers Were Answered
[Verse 1] There were nights inside that apartment Bare walls holding all the quiet I had learned to live alone But I never learned to want it So I talked to God in quiet About the thing I couldn't solve I said, "If there's somebody out there Who could know me and still stay" [Pre-Chorus] I didn't ask for perfect I didn't know her name I only knew the empty And kept praying just the same [Chorus] My prayers were answered Before I knew the answer's name One door closed, another opened And nothing stayed the same I asked for someone who could know me And still choose me as I am I thought I was asking for somebody I never saw the life beyond that door [Verse 2] There was one door standing open And something told me, "Let it be" Almost before that moment passed Another opened quietly But I picked up the phone and called her And gave that night another chance No thunder rolling, no sign in the sky Just two people, something settling inside [Pre-Chorus] We both would say it later Though neither could explain From that very first night together It already felt like home [Chorus] My prayers were answered Before I knew the answer's name One door closed, another opened And nothing stayed the same I asked for someone who could know me And still choose me as I am I thought I was asking for somebody I never saw the life beyond that door [Bridge] I had always believed in God Long before that night But I hadn't understood salvation Until she walked into my life And through the life that grew before me Through a faith I learned to see I came to understand why Jesus Meant more than I had ever believed [Final Chorus] My prayers were answered And now I know the answer's name What began with one small doorway Became everything that changed I prayed for someone who could know me And still choose me as I am But looking at the life around me God gave more than I knew to ask [Outro] Bare walls became a home Quiet rooms became a life And all these years later I still look around sometimes...
