Why do the heathen rage?
Why do the people imagine a vain thing?
Why do the kings of the earth set themselves?
And why do the rulers take counsel together?

Why, against the LORD? 
Why, against the LORD?
And why against his anointed?
Let us break their bands asunder, they say.
And let us cast those cords, off and away!

The LORD says: Yet
Already have I set
With a rod of iron shalt thou break them.
Like a potter’s vessel into pieces shalt thou dash them.
The LORD shall have them in derision.
God sitting in the heavens shall laugh.
Then shall he vex them in his sore displeasure.
And speak to them in a little wrath.

My king upon my hill of Zion! Holy!
I will declare, I will declare the decree!
Thou art a Son to me;

Ask of me, and I shall give thee
the heathen for thine inheritance,
and the uttermost parts
of the earth for thy possession.
