[Verse 1] She sat in the dining hall With a planner full of doubt Every major on the list Kept getting crossed out She said, "I like the living things The leafs, the stems, the roots" Talked to an academic advisor With mud all over his boots [Pre-Chorus] He said, "Don't force the map Let the map find you" So she followed all her green thoughts And became a Botany major [Chorus] Botany, botany That's the road she chose Botany, botany Where the action is She smiled all the time Like she finally knew Botany, botany Was the thing for her to do [Verse 2] She learned all about chlorophyll And came to love photosynthesis And she could talk for hours about Non-vascular Embryophytes She wore mud on her shoes And pollen on her cuff Said, "I don't need much I think Botany is enough" [Pre-Chorus] Four years as a Botany major Was it worth all the toil? One hand on the future One hand in the soil [Chorus] Botany, botany That's the road she chose Botany, botany Where the action is She smiled all the time Like she finally knew Botany, botany Was the thing for her to do [Bridge] Then the caps and gowns came down And the job market looked bleak "Need experience, years of work" May as well majored in Greek She sent out applications For twenty likely botany jobs She got back three rejections And seventeen just ignored her [Chorus] Botany, botany That's the road she chose Botany, botany Where the action is She smiled all the time Like she finally knew Botany, botany Was the thing for her to do [Outro] No paycheck yet But she still bends low Talking to the seedlings Waiting... for them to grow Botany, botany She chose her path Botany, botany At least it doesn't require much math.
