STYLE: Children’s musical sung entirely by young children around seven years old. All solo vocals are high-pitched, sweet, innocent, youthful child voices. Chorus sung by a small group of young children. One consistent childlike vocal style throughout the entire song. No adult singers, no mature male vocals, no deep voices, no adult narration, no spoken dialogue. Slow emotional Christmas R&B with soft piano, gentle trap percussion, warm bass and distant Christmas bells. Singing begins immediately. No vocal percussion or nonsense syllables. [Child Solo] Mayor Nole Scum brought bad news He says this year there’s no Christmas for you The orphanage must save its money this year No presents or feast, no Christmas cheer No gathering by the tree tonight We hoped that Santa would make things right Perhaps next year things will be better I wish Santa would send us a letter [Child Solo] I saved up my matches, I kept them so safe To light all the candles and wait by the fireplace I know Santa will come, he’ll find us somehow He’ll bring all our presents, I still believe now I’ll leave him his milk and cookies tonight And keep all my little candles burning bright Though all of the children have stopped believing I still think that Santa might come Christmas evening Maybe he’ll find us wherever we are Maybe he’ll follow our little candle star I still believe in Santa, even if no one does [Children’s Chorus] Tell me it ain’t so, Santa, please come this year Even our parents say you won’t appear Miss Amy believes, but she doesn’t know Where can we turn, and where can we go? Who shall we pray for when Christmas is near? Who will remember the children this year? Christmas is coming, but nobody knows If Santa will find us through the cold and the snow We still have hope, though the grown-ups say no Please come, dear Santa, don’t leave us alone [Child Solo] I’ll keep my drumsticks tucked close to my chest I’ll tap out a rhythm and try my best I’ll play on the wall, on the chair, on the floor And dream of the drum set I’ve wanted before Perhaps Santa hears every beat that I play Perhaps he’ll remember and come Christmas Day The other kids say that believing won’t do But I still believe he might come for me too I’ll make him a rhythm, I’ll play him a song And hope that my drumming can help us be strong I still believe in Santa, even if no one does [Children’s Chorus] Tell me it ain’t so, Santa, please come this year Even our parents say you won’t appear Miss Amy believes, but she doesn’t know Where can we turn, and where can we go? Who shall we pray for when Christmas is near? Who will remember the children this year? Christmas is coming, but nobody knows If Santa will find us through the cold and the snow We still have hope, though the grown-ups say no Please come, dear Santa, don’t leave us alone [Child Solo Back and Forth] Miss Amy is crying, perhaps it is true No Santa is coming for me and for you The others have given up, they’re crying tonight But maybe there’s someone who still sees the light Our neighbor Lucas Stain comes each Christmas season He gives chocolate gold coins, and he has his own reasons Let’s write him a letter and ask if he knows If Santa is coming through winter and snow I’ll light a small candle to help guide the way I’ll fold up our letter and send it away I’ll write on the paper and fold it up tight We’ll fold it like an airplane and launch it tonight We’ll send it out the window and hope he will see And maybe he’ll tell us what Christmas will be [Children’s Chorus] Tell me it ain’t so, Santa, please come this year Even our parents say you won’t appear Miss Amy believes, but she doesn’t know Where can we turn, and where can we go? Who shall we pray for when Christmas is near? Who will remember the children this year? Christmas is coming, but nobody knows If Santa will find us through the cold and the snow We still have hope, though the grown-ups say no Please come, dear Santa, don’t leave us alone [Child Solo Back and Forth] If Santa won’t come, perhaps Lucas will know Perhaps he’ll send word through the cold winter snow And if there’s no Santa, if dreams don’t come true I hope he has chocolate gold coins for us too We folded our letter and sent it away Please tell us, dear Lucas, will Santa come our way? I hope he writes back [Instrumental outro with soft piano and distant Christmas bells. No vocals.]
