[Intro – Spoken Word] Every night, same time. Same rusty door. Same whiskey. Same old man in the corner. And every night... the same damn story. [Verse 1] The rusty door squeaked when he walked inside Same time every night, like the hands of a clock He headed to the bar and never said a word The bartender poured his whiskey and slid it down the bar He never asked his name, never said hello Just turned and looked toward the table in the corner Where an old man sat beneath a yellow light Waiting like he'd been waiting there forever [Verse 2] He carried his glass across that creaking floor Pulled out a chair and took his usual seat The old man smiled and shook his head "Same time, another day, ain't it?" The man just smiled and took a drink The old man said, "Aren't you tired of that old story?" He leaned back slow and gave a little grin "Tell it again." [Verse 3] The old man sighed, "I'm getting old, you know One of these nights I might forget a part" The man looked down into his whiskey glass "I understand... please continue." So the old man started talking about a man Who fell in love with a woman long ago He wanted her bad, wanted her by his side But he didn't have the money to make it so [Verse 4] So he found some men who didn't play by rules Said they could help him make a little extra cash He knew damn well those men were trouble But love can make a fool out of any man He got in deep and things went wrong He tried to disappear before they caught him But they tracked him down and followed him home And he ran to the woman he loved [Chorus] One shot to the right shoulder Blood running down his sleeve They told him, "Tell us what we wanna know Or you're never gonna leave" He wouldn't give them nothing Wouldn't tell them what they wanted to hear So they took the woman that he loved And killed her right there [Verse 5] They walked away and left him bleeding That bullet burning through his side He crawled toward the woman he loved But there was nothing left behind her eyes He held her close until the strength was gone His blood running cold beneath the moon And somewhere before the darkness came He whispered, "I'll be back for you" [Verse 6] The old man stopped and cleared his throat Then looked down at his trembling hands "I may have missed a part somewhere My memory ain't what it used to be" The man across from him just listened Never saying what he knew The old man took another drink Then continued like the story was still new [Verse 7] "That poor man bled out on the floor With a bullet in his left shoulder And the woman he loved was gone Taken from him by those cold-blooded men" The old man looked up from his glass But the other man didn't make a sound He just sat there quietly With his eyes fixed on the whiskey [Bridge – Spoken / Half-Sung] The room got quiet. The fiddle stopped. Even the old floorboards seemed to hold their breath. The man finished his whiskey. Set the glass down slow. Then he smiled. [Final Chorus] "I liked that story." He pushed his chair back And slowly stood to leave Then he reached behind his shoulder Like he'd done a thousand times before And pulled his shirt aside [Final Reveal – Spoken] "It was the right shoulder." The old man stared at him. The man smiled. The old man whispered... "Yes... I know." A long silence. Then the old man looked down at his whiskey. "That woman..." He swallowed hard. "That woman was my daughter." [Outro] The rusty door squeaked as the man walked out The bartender never said a word The old man sat alone beneath the yellow light And nobody in that bar moved The clock on the wall still hadn't changed The whiskey glass was still half full And the old man waited for tomorrow night... Same time. Same story. Same bar. Forever.
