[Verse 1] With still sleepy fingers, I unfold the bread so gently Golden yolk is floating, falling softly on the white plate He is right beside me, lining up the two warm teacups Morning in the kitchen, that is how we say our first word [Pre-Chorus] Sprinkling a little salt, we share a laugh Same as every morning, somehow it warms me Out beyond the window, breeze is breathing softly Right on time as always, morning finds us here [Chorus] I’m making all the egg sandwiches He’s getting all the milky tea ready This is our little routine This is our morning promise I’m making tuna salad sandwiches He’s getting all the mayo ready This is our little routine This is our gentle rhythm [Verse 2] You keep staring softly at the toasted edges browning Even if they’re burning just a little, we say that’s fine Sweet and tender fragrance slowly fills the room around us Sleepy, heavy faces melt and open into daylight [Pre-Chorus] Stirring with a single spoon, round and round Things from yesterday, we leave them behind us Only from the first bite, we already feel it All of our shared mornings gather in this place [Chorus] I’m making all the egg sandwiches He’s getting all the milky tea ready This is our little routine This is our morning promise I’m making tuna salad sandwiches He’s getting all the mayo ready This is our little routine This is our gentle rhythm [Bridge] Someday we might hurry past and start to miss each other Still this taste will somehow stay and echo in our hearts Nameless, quiet mornings turn to tiny treasured jewels In our small tradition, only you and me [Final Chorus] I’m making all the egg sandwiches He’s getting all the milky tea ready This is our little routine This is our morning promise I’m making tuna salad sandwiches You are getting all the mayo ready This is our little routine This is our gentle rhythm Hope that it will always carry on
