Seat Saved at the Corner

[Verse 1] You text the name of the old cafe I haven't walked that block since you moved away We said we'd meet a dozen times Then let the months fall through the little lines I'm seven minutes late again You lift your cup and give that same old grin [Pre-Chorus] Years go fast and plans fall through But I still know how to sit with you [Chorus] Keep a seat saved at the corner Keep a little of your day for me I got stories getting older That are better when you hear them first Keep a seat saved at the corner We don't have to be who we used to be Just a couple people showing up That's enough, that's enough for me [Verse 2] You say the house still needs some work I say my daughter's learned to roll her eyes We trade the names of people we miss And all the things the photos never tell us The server asks if we'll have more We both say yes before she finishes [Pre-Chorus] Years go fast and plans fall through But I still know how to sit with you [Chorus] Keep a seat saved at the corner Keep a little of your day for me I got stories getting older That are better when you hear them first Keep a seat saved at the corner We don't have to be who we used to be Just a couple people showing up That's enough, that's enough for me [Bridge - intimate solo vocal, piano and strings] Friendship isn't living back in time It's learning who you are from here And making sure there's still a place For your name inside the coming year [Instrumental interlude - orchestra and rhythm section, no vocals] [Final Chorus] Keep a seat saved at the corner Keep a little of your day for me I got stories getting older That are better when you hear them first Keep a seat saved at the corner We don't have to be who we used to be Just a couple people showing up That's enough, that's enough for me [Outro] Same old grin Different stories Seat saved at the corner
