The Sage of the Ancient Oak

V5

Verse 1 - The Opening Gambit] Come gather close, ye restless souls, I'll tell a tale most old, Of one who dwells where ancient paths through mystic woodlands fold. In oak that's stood since time began, when first the world was young, Livs he who knows what mortals seek, yet never speaks their tongue. [Verse 2 - Character Introduction] The Great Owl sits upon his throne of bark and twisted branch, His golden eyes like burnished coins watch all who'd seek his stance. No crown adorns his feathered head, no scepter does he bear, Yet kings and beggars both have climbed the steps of his great lair. [Verse 3 - The Challenge Emerges] They come with questions burning bright, with problems vast and small, "O Sage of Oak!" they cry aloud, "Please hear our desperate call!" But he just blinks those amber eyes and tilts his hoary head, While down below the suppliants wait for wisdom to be said. [Verse 4 - The Attempted Resolution] "Speak, Oracle!" the people plead, "Your counsel we implore! Tell us of love and war and gold, of what the fates have store!" Yet still he sits in silence deep, his vigil ever kept, While those who'd have him solve their woes grow restless where they wept. [Verse 5 - The True Solution] But lo! Those few with patience learned a truth beyond all speech: The more he watched, the less he spoke; the more he'd simply teach. For in his silence lay the key to wisdom's sweetest art— To listen well with open mind and calm and steady heart. [Verse 6 - The Minstrel's Wisdom] So when the world grows loud with noise and counsel flows like wine, Remember well the oak tree's lord and his design divine. Sometimes the wisest word to speak is simply... none at all. [Chuckled] Though if this song has pleased your ears, some coins would help me crawl! [Spoken, with gentle irony] And here's the strangest truth of all, good friends who gather near: I've talked for seven verses straight about... not talking here!
