# PISTIS SOPHIA ## CHAPTER I ### The Mystery Beyond the Veil After Jesus had risen from the dead, he remained with his disciples for eleven years. During those years he spoke continually of the hidden worlds, teaching them the mysteries of the heavens. Yet his teaching reached only as far as the realms of the **First Commandment**, and as far as the regions of the **First Mystery beyond the Veil**. This First Mystery was known to them as the Twenty-Fourth Mystery, the lowest and outermost of the twenty-four mysteries dwelling within the second space of the First Mystery, which stands before all mysteries. Beyond it was the Father, appearing in the form of a dove. Jesus had said to his disciples: > “I came forth from the First Mystery, from that mystery which stands at the outermost boundary, the Twenty-Fourth Mystery.” But the disciples did not understand that anything existed beyond it. They believed this Mystery to be the crown of the universe, the source from which all existence descended and the final boundary beyond which nothing could be. They thought it was the completion of every completion. For Jesus had told them that this Mystery surrounded the **First Commandment**, the **Five Impressions**, the **Great Light**, the **Five Helpers**, and the entire **Treasury of Light**. And so they believed they had been shown the highest heaven. They did not yet know that they had only been shown its threshold. --- Jesus had not revealed to them the full expanse of the realms belonging to the **Great Invisible**. He had not told them of the Three Triple Powers. He had not revealed the twenty-four Invisibles, nor the regions in which they dwell, nor their Aeons, nor the secret order in which those Aeons are arranged. He had not explained the emanations flowing from the Great Invisible: the Unbegotten, the Self-Begotten, the Begotten, the Givers of Light, the Unpaired Ones, the Rulers, the Authorities, the Lords, the Archangels, the Angels, the Decans, the Servitors, the Houses of the Spheres, or the hidden orders belonging to each of them. The disciples knew their names only as distant shadows. They did not yet know the architecture of eternity. --- Nor had Jesus revealed the full unfolding of the **Treasury of Light**. He had not shown them the order of its emanations or the paths by which those powers were arranged. He had not revealed the Saviours stationed within each order. He had not named the guardians who stand at the gates of the Treasury. He had not revealed the realm of the **Twin Saviour**, the one called the **Child of the Child**. He had not told them where the **Three Amens** dwell. He had not shown them the regions into which the **Five Trees** spread their branches. Nor had he revealed the dwelling places of the **Seven Amens**, which are also called the **Seven Voices**, or how those Voices extend themselves throughout the invisible worlds. These things remained sealed. --- The disciples had heard of the **Five Helpers**, but they did not know their true nature or the realms into which they had been placed. They knew of the **Great Light**, but they had never been shown how that Light unfolded itself, or into what hidden region its radiance had descended. They knew the names of the **Five Impressions**. They knew of the **First Commandment**. But they did not know where these powers were established within the vast order of the unseen worlds. Jesus had spoken of these things only in general. He had told them that they existed. He had not yet revealed their positions, their dimensions, their hierarchy, or the secret pattern by which one realm opened into another. Because of this, the disciples did not understand that still greater regions existed beyond the Mystery they knew. They mistook the gate for the kingdom. They mistook the veil for what lay behind it. --- Jesus had never said to them: > “I passed through this realm, and then through another. I crossed these powers and these dominions until at last I entered that Mystery, passed through it, and came forth from beyond it.” Instead, he had simply told them: > “I came forth from that Mystery.” And because of these words, they believed the Mystery from which he came was the final Mystery. They believed it to be the **Completion of Completions**. They believed it to be the head of the universe. They believed it to contain the entire **Fullness**. For Jesus had once said: > “That Mystery surrounds the whole universe of which I have spoken to you, from the day I first came among you until this very hour.” And the disciples understood his words according to the measure of what had already been revealed. They believed there could be nothing higher. Nothing deeper. Nothing concealed beyond that sacred boundary. They did not yet understand that the Mystery they believed to be the end of all things was only the outer chamber. The heavens they knew were only the first heavens. [Church, Spoken Word of God, Reading from the bible. Deep Baritone Female Vocal. Dark Horror Drone.] The Light they had seen was only the light before the greater Light. And beyond the Veil waited mysteries whose names had never yet been spoken to them. [Church Drone Intro] [low pipe organ, distant choir breath, sub-bass drone, slow bell toll] [Deep Female Baritone Spoken Word] And the Light said: You have called the threshold Heaven because you have never crossed the door. You have called the silence God because nothing answered you. You have called the veil the ending because your eyes could see no farther. But I tell you: There is a Light behind the light. There is a Name behind the name. There is a Voice beneath the voice that spoke the stars awake. [low female choir enters, wordless] Do not worship the gate. Do not kneel before the shadow of the throne. For beyond the First Mystery there is another Mystery. And beyond that Mystery— another. And another. And another. [organ descends one note at a time] [Deep Female Baritone, slower] The heavens are chambers. The angels are keepers. The powers are doors. The worlds are veils. And what you have called eternity is only the outer hall. [Choir, very distant] Amen. [Deep Female Baritone] Not the Amen of ending. The Amen of opening. [Dark drone swells] There are Seven Voices that speak where no tongue can follow. There are Five Trees whose roots drink from the invisible. There are guardians at the Treasury of Light. There are names that even angels do not speak aloud. And there is a place where the Light casts no shadow— because there is nothing outside it. [brief silence] [Deep Female Baritone, almost whispered] You asked to see God. You did not ask what God was hiding. [Low choir rises] Amen. Amen. Amen. [Church bell, very low] [Deep Female Baritone] Blessed are those who do not mistake the veil for the face behind it. Blessed are those who enter trembling. Blessed are those who hear the Voice and do not turn away. For the Mystery is not closed. The Mystery is watching. [Choir holds one dissonant chord] And the door— is open. [Final enormous organ chord] [Female Baritone Whisper] Enter. [Dark drone continues 20–30 seconds, then slowly fades]
