Not Given Fear
[INTRO-instrumental only] [Verse 1 — Rap] Alarm clock screaming, five-thirty in the morning, Coffee in my hand while the whole house is snoring. Hair in a ponytail, keys by the door, Kiss my babies goodbye, then I’m off to work some more. I’m building a future while I’m raising a family, Trying to give them what the world keeps demanding from me. Bills getting higher, time getting shorter, Trying to be a Proverbs woman in a twenty-first-century order. I work with my hands, I provide, I prepare, But sometimes at midnight I’m whispering prayers. “What if I’m not enough? What if I lose my way?” Then I hear that still small voice telling me— [Pre-Chorus] You don’t have to carry tomorrow tonight, You don’t have to know how you’re gonna fight. You may feel alone, but you’re never abandoned, There are angels around you when you can’t see their hands. [Chorus — melodic rap/sung] I was not given a spirit of fear, I was given power, love, a sound mind here. So when the world gets heavy and the road gets rough, I lift my head and say, “God, You are enough.” And if this body gets tired, If these feet get weak, Heaven is waiting, but He’s walking with me. He sends His angels wherever I go, So I’m not walking alone— No, I’m not walking alone. [Verse 2 — Rap] I’m packing the lunches, signing the papers, Teaching them kindness, teaching them favors. Teaching my daughters they don’t have to shrink, That strength isn’t loud—sometimes strength is to think. Sometimes I cry where nobody sees it, Lock that bathroom door just long enough to breathe it. I’m scared of the future, scared I might fail, Scared all my effort might somehow derail. But fear ain’t my master, anxiety ain’t king, I know who holds tomorrow, I know who holds everything. I don’t have to pretend that I never get weak, Faith doesn’t mean I never get scared— It means fear doesn’t get to speak. [Pre-Chorus] You don’t have to carry tomorrow tonight, You don’t have to know how you’re gonna fight. You may feel alone, but you’re never abandoned, There are angels around you when you can’t see their hands. [Chorus] I was not given a spirit of fear, I was given power, love, a sound mind here. [Bridge] One day… This tired body won’t be tired anymore. One day I’ll see what I’ve been believing for. But until that day— I’ve got babies to raise. A life to live. A purpose to fulfill. So I’ll put one foot in front of the other. And if I stumble… He’ll catch me. [Verse 3 — harder rap] I’m not Superwoman, I’m a woman with a Savior, I don’t need perfection just to know that He can favor. I can work hard and still need grace, I can wipe my tears and still seek His face. Proverbs in my heart, but I’m living in the now, With a calendar packed and a prayer somehow. I don’t have everything figured out yet, But I know who I am and I know who I’ve met. Power when I’m weak, love when I’m worn, A sound mind when my thoughts feel torn. And when I step outside, whatever comes my way, I know Heaven’s got protection over me today. [Final Chorus — bigger, anthemic] I was not given a spirit of fear, I was given power, love, a sound mind here. So when the world gets heavy and the road gets rough, I lift my head and say, “God, You are enough.” And if this body gets tired, If these feet get weak, Heaven is waiting, but He’s walking with me. He sends His angels wherever I go, So I’m not walking alone— [Outro — melodic] Not walking alone… Even when I can’t see the road, Even when I’m scared to go, He goes before me. Not walking alone… I’ve got Heaven behind me, I’ve got God beside me, And grace beneath my feet. I was not given fear. I was given faith.
