[Verse 1] Last night I went to bed and dreamt I never did get up. I died and went to heaven, I was blessed to have the luck. There was mom and dad and Polly, Even Uncle Bob was there. So damned many cousins It was like a county fair. [Verse 2] And we were all around a table filled with food that we all love. Cornbread, biscuits, beans and bacon Ice cream in the tub. Fried chicken, mashed potatoes served with gravy, oh so good. I said I must be in heaven, won't you look at all this food? [Verse 3] Bob said you ain't just in heaven, son, it's more than what you're wishing. You ain't died and gone to heaven, boy, you've died and gone. You've gone to Granny's kitchen. [Verse 4] Yes, I went to Granny's kitchen, I was served by cousin Bess. I ate so much for breakfast that I couldn't catch my breath. We all love Granny's kitchen 'cause her biscuits are the best. I'd died and went to Granny's house where I ate so much. It scared me half to death. [Verse 5] Yes, the food in Granny's kitchen was so good it'd make you cry. Banana bread and black-eyed peas and good old pecan pie. Fried okra, turnip greens, fresh buttered corn still on the cob. You could eat so much at Granny's house, you'd never want to stop. [Bridge] There was a whole damn slew of cousins that would push me on the swing. And I could hear the bees a-buzzin', there'd be honey every spring. [Verse 6] Yes, I went to Granny's kitchen, had a crush on Cindy Lou. She touched my hand at dinner and I almost spilled my stew. We all love Granny's kitchen 'cause her biscuits were the best. I could have died in Granny's kitchen where I ate so much. It scared me half to death. [Outro] I dreamt I went to Granny's kitchen where I ate so much. It scared me half to death.
