The Little Red Toolbox Daddy Made for Me
I grew up on a farm where daddy had no time . It was milking cows and plowing fields as far as we could see. Daddy was nobody's fool, even though He never went too far in school. I grew up and watched my daddy age. The cows were gone and the fields rented out, so he sat and watched TV. He learned how to read and all about life by watching Oprah, he told me. Then came to school and helped the kids 'bout every other week. One day I found him in the shed, putting nails in a little red box. He was shining’ a hammer, getting something ready for me. I was alone with children, and it worried him some. So, he put together a little toolbox as he sipped on Rum. He filled it with screwdrivers and spackling compound. Some wrenches, tape and wire he found. He handed it to me with love on his face. Then quietly walked off with his dog named Blaze. I grew up on a farm where daddy had no time . It was milking cows and plowing fields as far as we could see. He mended old doll houses and toys with glee, But most of all, he made a little red toolbox just for me. A blessed red toolbox just for me Just for me
