O Lord, rebuke me not in wrath, Nor chasten me in burning anger! Your arrows pierce, Your hand weighs heavy, No health remains, my bones are shattered. My sins, a flood, rise o’er my head, A crushing weight too hard to bear. My wounds are foul, they fester sore, My foolish heart is laid so bare. I bend so low, in grief I groan, My strength is gone, my light grows dim. Friends stand aloof, my kinsmen linger, While snares are set to capture me. Yet I am deaf to whispers sly, I do not speak when foes accuse. For in You, Lord, my hope is waiting, My God, You hear my every cry. Do not forsake me in my failing, O Lord, my Savior, haste, be near! Though I am weak and torn with sorrow, In You alone my heart finds cheer.
