[Verse 1] I found a map in a paper cup Wedged in the gum under table twelve It showed a fish with a party hat And an arrow pointing to the shelf I took a bite of a cherry slice And swore the room turned inside out Your name was written on the napkin edge Like it had been waiting for my mouth [Pre-Chorus] So I followed the sign Through the squeaky door Past the chair with one broken leg And the floor I swore [Chorus] Paper cup moon Paper cup moon You keep rolling back to me Paper cup moon Paper cup moon I can’t let that weird thing be (Back again) (Back again) [Verse 2] There was a cat with a crooked ear Guarding a stack of coupon books It blinked once slow like it knew my plan Then it jumped to the coat-rack hooks I asked the man with the orange gloves If he’d seen a sky in a glass He just laughed and spun a tiny key Said, “Kid, some things don’t need to pass” [Pre-Chorus] So I took that key And the map said go To the room behind the broken fan Where the cold wind blows [Chorus] Paper cup moon Paper cup moon You keep rolling back to me Paper cup moon Paper cup moon I can’t let that weird thing be (Back again) (Back again) [Bridge] Then the ceiling cracked And a silver thread Dropped right into my open palm I wrapped it up in bread Now I keep it close In my jacket seam Like a little loud impossible That only I have seen [Final Chorus] Paper cup moon Paper cup moon You keep rolling back to me Paper cup moon Paper cup moon I can’t let that weird thing be Paper cup moon Paper cup moon Spin your strange light over me (Over me) (Over me)
