Cold wind is blowing off the harbor wall Salt spray rising as the seagulls call I watch the clouds go drifting out to sea And wonder what my life was meant to be If I could spin the hands of time around Would I untangle every choice that tied me down? But I look at what I have, and I hold it near The laughter of my children, loud and clear The love of my family, the breath in my lungs The sweetest songs that I have ever sung I've got a heavy heart, and a pocket full of rain But I wouldn't trade the joy just to lose the pain A sterile room, a doctor’s quiet sigh A sudden stormy weather in a cloudless sky He said the words I never thought I’d hear And suddenly the shoreline feels so near The health I took for granted slipping through my hands Like water rushing fast across the seaside sands But I look at what I have, and I hold it near The laughter of my children, loud and clear The love of my family, the breath in my lungs The sweetest songs that I have ever sung I've got a heavy heart, and a pocket full of rain But I wouldn't trade the joy just to lose the pain Yeah, tick-tock, clock's loud, staring at the grey sea, Doc just dropped a heavy weight right on top of me. Mind’s racing fast, looking back at the past, Wondering just how long this fragile frame is gonna last. Regret trying to creep in, whispering mistakes, Counting every wrong turn, all the little heartaches. But nah, look at the kids, look at the life we built, I refuse to spend my final chapters drowning in guilt. Can’t change the past, can’t buy more sand for the glass, But I can make sure these final moments are cast In iron and love, grateful for the breath that I take, For every single memory we managed to make. Ain't gonna let the shadow of a coming death Steal the sunlight, steal the joy, or steal my breath. Standing on the shoreline where the salt water sprays, I'm taking back the power for the rest of my days. There’s anger in the crashing of the tide There’s terror in the places I can’t hide I wrestled with the shadows on the pier But the fog is lifting, and the sky is clear I can't rewind the clock to start anew But I can choose exactly what I'll do I’ll take every second, I’ll breathe it all in! I’ll face every morning, let the daylight begin! With a thankful spirit, and a steady gaze I will live out the glory of my remaining days Yeah, every single second, every grain of sand I’m thankful for the life right here in my hand. Right here in my hand.
