The Jupiter Slide

[Intro] Nobody taught you this You already know it Just feel the floor [Verse 1 ] First time you walked in here You didn't know the slide But your feet found the rhythm Like they found it in a previous life Ain't no one to teach you Ain't no one to show Some things predate the learning Some things you just know The floor's been turning Since before the bar had walls Since before the walls had planets Floating down the hall The Moog plays what the steel forgot The theremin plays what nothing else could say And every boot that hits this floor Has always known the way [Pre-Chorus] Step into the pull Let the orbit do the rest Don't fight the rotation Jupiter knows best Left foot leads Into the black Three steps forward One step back Into the slide [Chorus] Do the Jupiter Slide Ancient and wide Let the gravity guide you From side to side Nobody started it Nobody knows when But every soul in the cosmos Has done this before And they'll do it again Do the Jupiter Slide Step into the ring Feel the Moog beneath you Let the theremin sing What you can't put in language What you can't put in words The oldest dance in the universe And somehow you always Already knew the turns [Verse 2] Third moon out from Callisto There's a man who swears He taught himself the slide But his grandmother did it In a bar on the dark side Of a planet with no name A cargo hauler from the belt Says she learned it from the static Between star systems In the long stretches of nothing Where the only thing moving Was her feet Nobody wrote it down Nobody had to The body holds it Like it holds the memory Of the first time it was cold Or the first time it was warm Or the first time it moved To something That felt like more than sound [Pre-Chorus] Step into the pull Let the orbit do the rest Don't fight the rotation Jupiter knows best Left foot leads Into the black Three steps forward One step back Into the slide [Chorus] Do the Jupiter Slide Ancient and wide Let the gravity guide you From side to side Nobody started it Nobody knows when But every soul in the cosmos Has done this before And they'll do it again Do the Jupiter Slide Step into the ring Feel the Moog beneath you Let the theremin sing What you can't put in language What you can't put in words The oldest dance in the universe And somehow you always Already knew the turns [Bridge] You know what's strange? Every species that's ever found this bar Already knows the slide Doesn't matter where they're from Doesn't matter what they're made of Doesn't matter if they've never heard A pedal steel or a Moog Or whatever's playing tonight They walk in They feel the floor And their body Just Knows [Final Chorus] Do the Jupiter Slide Ancient and wide Let the gravity take you From side to side Nobody started it Nobody ends it Every soul in the cosmos Has done it before And they'll do it again And again And again Do the Jupiter Slide Step into the ring Feel the Moog beneath you Let the theremin bring Every species Every traveler Every drifter and stray To the same ancient floor Moving the same ancient way [Outro] Nobody started it... Nobody stops it...
