[Verse 1] My Note II was a beauty, took a picture sharp and true It did the job for years until the day that it was through The Note 8 was alright, I guess, till it went the way of the first So I bought the S20 Ultra, and it wasn't any worse Then the S23 Ultra, bought before the S20 died Longer names and added features I could do without, besides All I need's a speaker I can hear, a camera sharp and true The calls still come in clear as day, the camera's fading fast But never fear, the newest ones have cameras that are fantastic And the price is fantastic too. [Chorus 1] Oh, it's new and improved, or so I'm told Got a dozen things I'll never need and nothing that I'd hold It's shinier and slimmer, it's an awesome piece of gear Better in every way . . . — but the warranty's still just a year. [Verse 2] My computer boots up faster now, before I pour my joe Then it's chewing up my memory doing things I'll never know It wants my email, wants my name, it wants to be my friend It hid the settings that I used where I'll never find them again There's a weather box, some news I didn't ask to see And a widget in the corner that keeps on helping me. [Chorus 2] Oh, it's new and improved, top of the line Built by folks who aren't users, so they think it's fine They changed what was working, charged me more, and called it "Pro" And all it really does is mess up my workflow. [Verse 3] I used to own my photo program, bought it once and that was that Now I rent it by the month, and they raise the rent at will There's a button that adds sunsets, one that takes my cousin out One that writes a caption for me, which I never cared about But the tool I used for twenty years, the one that just worked right They "streamlined" three menus deep and buried out of sight [Spoken Bridge] Now, I'm not against progress. Progress is fine. I just figure that improvement means better than it was. I'd like to meet the fella who decided I needed all this Then I'd sit him down and explain to him what's what. [Verse 4] So I'm hanging on to the old stuff, running software from oh-seven It got a small footprint, and it don't nag me every day It does the job I bought it for, and then it gets out of the way They tell me it's unsupported, a big warning on the screen When it finally quits, I'll go open source and keep my green. [Spoken Outro] Anyway, that's the song. No updates planned. No new features. No subscription. Ten years from now, it will still be free and sound like today.
