Safe At Home
When this wicked war is ended, And we all are homeward bound One and all will be so anxious, For to reach their own home town Where they will be oh so happy When that time does really come. When we all have done our duty And have landed safe at home. When you see your dear old Mother, Who is waiting day by day. For the boy she loves so dearly, And who went so far away, For to fight for his dear country Where the shot and shell do moan But how happy we will all be When they land us safe at home. When the Huns they get their trimming Which I think will not be long For the Allies are united And they are fighting strong For their countries and their Freedom. For in peace they wish to roam No more fighting when it ends And we all are safe at home. When there is no more hard drilling, No more turning left and right No more "Eyes left" on every corner, When the general is in sight No more bully beef and biscuits That are harder than a bone. We will soon forget about them When we land all safe at home. Peace at last the war is over, And a victory we have won, No more dodging Fritzes whizz bangs, No more trouble with the Hun When we do not have to "stand to." Almost frozen to the bone, No more rum before our breakfast When we land at home sweet home.
