# **Welcome Home to the Clockwork Cabaret** *Wrench the Future — Vol. 3 Finale* **[Intro — old phonograph / distant piano]** There was a door beneath the rubble Where no door had been before, Past the smoke of Melongeddon, Past the scars across the floor. Hydroponics had been shattered, We'd rebuilt what we could save— Then Lumen found a little secret That the Archives never gave. A brass knob. A dusty hallway. And a light that shouldn't be. Fidget grinned— *"Well... obviously we're going in."* **[Verse 1 — Fidget / playful electroswing]** We found velvet under cobwebs, Found old bottles, gears and gold, Found a stage beneath the darkness Waiting patiently and cold. Tables set for vanished patrons, Mirrors silvered black with years, Little ghosts of conversations Almost whispering in our ears. I said, "Lumen, hit the power!" She said, "That seems unwise." Then the bulbs began awakening Like a hundred amber eyes. **[Pre-Chorus]** One by one the gears started turning, One by one the old lights burned, Something buried, something sleeping— Something waiting for our return. **[Chorus]** So welcome home To the Clockwork Cabaret! Where the brass still shines And the old ghosts play, Where the gears keep time To the songs we make, And a broken world Gets one more mistake. Raise the curtain, Strike the band, Take your wrench And take my hand— We don't know why it's here, But we're staying anyway! Welcome home... To the Clockwork Cabaret. **[Verse 2 — discovery montage]** There were dresses in the wardrobe, Feathers, waistcoats, silver thread, Fidget tried on half the twenties While Lumen floated overhead. Green for Widget, black for Lumen, Copper flashing through the room, And the foxgirl found a cane That looked suspiciously like a tool. *"It's a wrench."* "It's a cane." *"It's a wrench-shaped cane."* "...Of course it is." Then the Archivist came walking Through the newly-lighted hall— And unlike us... He didn't laugh at all. **[Verse 3 — Archivist / music drops to piano and cello]** I've seen cities swallowed whole. I've watched stories disappear. I've held books whose final pages Were the last proof they were here. And I've learned that empty buildings Are not empty in the end— Every chair remembers someone. Every stage remembers friends. So while Fidget saw adventure And Lumen searched the walls, I wondered who had built this place... And why no one came when it called. There are rooms we rediscover. There are doors we shouldn't close. There are worlds that leave no gravestone— Only somewhere... someone knows. **[Pre-Chorus — quiet]** Then a foxgirl crossed the silence, Put a ridiculous hat upon my head. *"You look too serious."* "I am serious." *"Yeah. That's the problem."* **[Band kicks back in]** **[Chorus]** Welcome home To the Clockwork Cabaret! Where the brass still shines And the old ghosts play, Where the gears keep time To the songs we make, And yesterday Doesn't get the final say! Raise the curtain, Strike the band, Build tomorrow By hand— If the world forgot this room, We'll remember it today! Welcome home To the Clockwork Cabaret! **[Bridge — darker electronic distortion]** But every door leads somewhere. Every archive has a cost. And somewhere beyond the footlights... Widget was getting lost. **[Music fractures — Conservatory motif]**
