The Goblin at the Gate
[Intro — radio static, church bell, distorted laughter] They asked me what I believe. Bring me your prophet. Bring me your priest. Bring me your scientist, your king and police. Put every claim on the table. Then bring me the Blade. [Beat drops] [Verse 1] I was born where the borders met the back of a lie, Where they ration out the earth and sell pieces of sky. Food in the warehouses, homes standing bare, Then they blamed freezing bodies for collapsing out there. I said, “Your system’s haunted.” They said, “That’s just the cost.” I said, “You built a compass that rewards whoever’s lost.” No king, no master, no unquestioned throne, No badge, crown or lab coat makes the truth your own. If your wisdom makes you cruel, then your wisdom ain’t good. If your order feeds on suffering, it never understood. [Pre-Chorus] I don’t kneel to the label. I don’t worship the team. I’ve seen sensible people build a murderous machine. Sharpen the question. Let excuses be flayed. Anybody claiming truth better step to the Blade. [Chorus] I’m the goblin at the gate, I’m the glitch inside the state, I’m the Fool who asks the question when the hour is getting late. Christ is king, Eris laughs, Greyface trembles in the shade. Bring your science, bring your scripture— Everybody meets the Blade. I’m the alien in the chapel, I’m the monkey in the crown. I don’t burn your holy temple— I just turn the tables down. No masters! No final word! No truth that must be paid! Anybody claiming heaven better step to the Blade. [Verse 2] I found Christ with the outsiders, not the empire or the bank, Flipping tables in the temple while the holy markets sank. Not the Christ of forced obedience, golden thrones and conquered land, But the one who touched the outcast and put mercy in command. I found Eris in the laughter when the solemn towers cracked: “Order calls itself eternal when it’s terrified of fact.” I found wisdom in the trickster, truth disguised as stupid jokes, Because tyrants fear the jester more than armies, guns and smoke. Not atheist, not orthodox, not safely filed away— I’m religiously suspicious of what religious people say. I borrow myths like lockpicks, use symbols like a map, But the second myths demand a cage, I’m climbing through the gap. [Pre-Chorus] I don’t hate faith— I hate the salesman putting God behind a fee. I don’t hate truth— I hate the coward saying truth belongs to me. Test the vision. Check the damage. See what kindness it has made. Anybody claiming wisdom better step to the Blade. [Breakdown — half-time, spoken] Does it feed the hungry? Shelter the abandoned? Make you more compassionate— or merely more important? Does revelation free people, or demand that they obey? Does your certainty survive when honest questions come its way? Does your God survive a joke? If not— that wasn’t truth. That was authority wearing truth’s coat. [Beat accelerates] [Verse 3 — rapid-fire] Anti-authority, not anti-order, I won’t call a prison a protective border. Anti-capital when capital devours the poor, Anti-national when the flag becomes a holy war. Anti-guru when the guru needs applause and cash, Anti-prophet when the prophecy protects their ass. Anti-science? No—the opposite: test it again! Replication is a blessing, not an insult, my friend. Anti-dogma, pro-mystery, radically amused, A sacred Fool refusing every role that gets abused. Christian Gnostic, Discordian, Taoist monkey spark, With a drawn-on eye, still stumbling through the dark. I don’t claim perfection. I’ve been broken, lost and loud. I’ve mistaken private thunder for instructions from the cloud. But I’d rather face correction than defend a pretty lie. My belief is what survives when reality replies. [Bridge — choir rising] Find the lonely ones. Sit beside them. Feed the body. Question violence. Protect wonder. Mock the tyrant. Test the vision. Keep it honest. No salvation sold for profit. No awakening built on fear. No invisible authority that cannot answer when we’re here. [Final Chorus — huge choir] I’m the goblin at the gate, I’m the glitch inside the state, I’m the Fool who keeps on laughing while the empire seals its fate. Christ is king, Eris laughs, Every false crown starts to fade. Bring your science, bring your scripture— Everybody meets the Blade. I’m the alien in the chapel, I’m the monkey in the crown. I’m the strange and holy blessing that your order can’t shut down. No masters! No final word! No frightened masquerade! Anybody claiming truth— EVERYBODY MEETS THE BLADE! [Outro — radio static] They asked me what I believe. Whatever remains after honesty cuts me too.
