The Four Ride Tonight Verse 1 I heard the thunder crack the sky No rain fell from the clouds above A rider crowned in fading white Came selling fear as faith and love He crossed the fields without a sound No blade was drawn, no warning cried But every soul that bowed its head Was conquered long before they died Chorus And the four ride tonight Through the dust and the dying light One by one they darken the land No king can stop them, no prayer can stand And the four ride tonight I can hear their hooves outside So hold your children, lock your doors The end is walking to us all Verse 2 The second came on blood-red steel The rivers learned the taste of war Brothers turned their backs to brothers And filled the earth with something more The third rode black through empty fields With scales that weighed our hunger down The rich kept feasting through the storm While hollow eyes filled every town Bridge Then silence fell across the earth A colder wind than I had known A pale horse crossed the valley floor And every heart beat felt alone Final Chorus And the four ride tonight Under a blind and broken sky The last one whispers not a word Yet every living thing complies And the four ride tonight I hear them calling out my name When morning comes there'll be no dawn Just ashes where the world once came Outro The four ride tonight... The four ride tonight...
