The Legend of Room 808
━━━━━━━━━━━━━T H E L E G E N D O F R O O M 8 0 8━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ A while back, my flight was delayed, so I stayed at a Hotel and worked on music late into the night. After getting stuck on the same track for hours, I went out to clear my head. On the way back, the lift stopped somewhere between floors seven and nine. At the end of the corridor was one door: 808. Music was playing behind it, and then I realised the voice sounded like mine. singing a song I’d never written, only somehow better than anything I’d made. The longer I listened, the better it became, and the more I felt like I was forgetting pieces of myself. So I walked away. The next day, housekeeping and reception both told me the space between seven and nine was only a staff floor. I never found Room 808 again, so I wrote down what I could remember. Maybe it was real. Maybe I was just way too high. Either way, some songs are better left behind the door Written and produced by DJ X / classyissue Suno Studio Workflow: https://suno.com/studio?project_version_id=99dc9483-c15a-4935-aa7c-4f2920a2c598 ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ Seven lights, then number nine Nothing waiting in between Still the carpet breathed beneath me Like a pulse beneath the seams Lift doors opened without sound No brass number on the wall Velvet dark beneath the gold Like the night had built a hall At the end, a single door 808 in ember glow From behind it, my own voice Sang a line I didn’t know Key card warming in my hand My name moving through the grain Then the lock breathed out a question Tell me what you came to change There is no Room 808 But I heard my future through the door A perfect song wearing my voice With every missing note restored One touch and it could wear my name One night, forget what I came for There is no Room 808 But I heard my future through the door 808 Say what you came for 808 Forget what you came for Names were cut into the brass Half erased beneath the shine Wishes written underneath With no one left to claim the lines Then the room replayed the song Brighter every time I breathed Each chorus took a memory And polished it until it gleamed Key card burning in my hand The numbers blurred beneath the gold The voice behind the door grew clearer While my own fell out of tune There is no Room 808 But I heard my future through the door A perfect song wearing my voice With every missing note restored One touch and it could wear my name One night, forget what I came for There is no Room 808 But I heard my future through the door 808 Say what you came for 808 Forget what you came for First went the room where I began Then the name I wrote songs under Then the face I meant to honour Then the reason for the hunger The room kept making it more perfect As it hollowed out the core By the time the key began to turn I couldn’t tell what music was for There is no Room 808 But I heard my future through the door The perfect song was calling me Till I couldn’t hear myself anymore One touch and it could wear my name One night, forget what I came for There is no Room 808 But I heard my future through the door 808 Say what you came for 808 Forget what you came for Seven lights, then number nine Nothing waiting in between But somewhere underneath the walls The room is still remembering me ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
