[Intro — whispered, distant thunder, low drone] In the days when the earth forgot The difference between right and wrong When every heart became a stone And violence filled the world alone The heavens watched The heavens knew The ancient word was coming true [Verse 1 — restrained, ominous] The sons of men had lost their way Their sins grew darker every day No mercy left, no fear of God The earth beneath them cried out hard But one man heard a different voice A warning buried in the noise “The waters come, build an ark The days of man are growing dark” [Pre-Chorus — drums slowly building] Wood on wood Hammer falls While the thunder waits beyond the walls [Chorus — enormous choir and guitars] RAIN! From the heavens, from the sky RAIN! Till the rivers rise The mountains disappear beneath the blackened tide RAIN! Hear the ancient waters roar RAIN! Hear them beating on the door And nothing in the world Will be the same anymore [Verse 2 — heavier] The animals came two by two Through fields beneath a darkened blue The ark stood waiting, sealed inside While clouds consumed the morning light Noah heard the final call One last warning to them all But the door was shut, the hour had come And heaven waited for the flood to run [Pre-Chorus — accelerating percussion] Drop by drop The silence breaks Then the whole world starts to shake [Chorus — bigger] RAIN! From the heavens, from the sky RAIN! Till the rivers rise The mountains disappear beneath the blackened tide RAIN! Hear the ancient waters roar RAIN! Hear them beating on the door And nothing in the world Will ever be the same anymore [Bridge — half-time, choir underneath] Forty days Forty nights No more stars No more lights Water climbing Higher still Covering valley Covering hill The world that thought It would never end Watched the waters Rise again And in the darkness Far below The ancient world Lost beneath the flow [Instrumental Apocalypse — thunder, choir, massive drums, rising strings] [Verse 3 — suddenly quiet] Inside the ark the darkness groaned The living waited, sealed alone Above the waves the vessel rolled While beneath it lay a vanished world Then slowly came the morning light After endless days and nights The rain fell silent, clouds withdrew And through the window came the blue [Pre-Chorus — almost whispered] Stillness After thunder Silence After fear A world erased A world remade And only water far and near [Final Chorus — colossal] RAIN! Now the heavens have grown still RAIN! And the waters lose their will The mountains rise like ghosts above the endless gray RAIN! And the ark begins to rest RAIN! On a world that failed the test A broken earth beneath a brand-new day [Choir] A brand-new day... A brand-new day... [Outro — piano, rain, distant choir] And somewhere in the empty sky A single promise waits on high No more flood No more end The bow appears The storm has spent But every time the dark clouds gather Every time the thunder rolls Remember the water Remember the ark Remember the world That disappeared in the dark [Long silence] [Whispered] And the rain came down...
