[Intro] [fingerpicked acoustic guitar enters] [Verse 1] [baritone male spoken vocals] We called for a pastor to shepherd our flock The leaders responded, we have several in stock We have preachers and teachers and orators and such But a pastor who's a shepherd, you're asking too much The church is a pasture where dangers abound Where wolves in sheep's clothing often are found We have several good leaders, you know that is true But you're looking for one who can look after you You're seeking a shepherd, perhaps that is wise We're seeking solutions, can you compromise And choose from our stable of wonderful steeds Maybe one of them will meet all your needs We have some who love Jesus and some who love folks There are some who give sermons and others tell jokes Some have great voices with a wonderful tone While others should only sing when they're alone But a pastor, a shepherd who tries to serve God That combination is really quite odd So pray that your leaders attend to God's voice And carefully, prayerfully, let God make the choice Yes, prayerfully, carefully, let God make the choice [guitar fades out]
