Mr Skiffington Joins The Circus

[Intro : carousel music, crowd applause] Verse] Mr Skiffington joined the circus Just the other day Traded his Lexus in for a canvas tent And a place to stay For 20 years He was a family man with a quiet job Then one morning He woke up and said "I've had enough" [Chorus] Enough of the goin' to work and the The white shirts and blue ties The living to work and the The wide-open blue skies And nobody knew the truth of his life So he joined the circus [Verse 2] A single teardrop rolls down his cheek The day he left No one knew why His wife thinks he's on a business trip And his son just said goodbye The night before He drove him home from college To catch a plane And nobody saw it comin' It all looked the same [Chorus] Enough of the goin' to work and the The white shirts and blue ties The living to work and the The wide-open blue skies And nobody knew the truth of his life So he joined the circus [Bridge] How do you do it? How do you get through it? He says "It's the same thing Night after night We show up in a town We go downtown We drink the place dry Then we load out And move on to the next town Do it all again But it's my life now And I wouldn't trade it For anything" [Chorus] Enough of the goin' to work and the The white shirts and blue ties The living to work and the The wide-open blue skies And nobody knew the truth of his life So he joined the circus [Outro] Mr Skiffington joined the circus Just the other day Traded his Lexus in for a canvas tent And a place to stay
