KEYS TO THE CITY Llaves Para Nuestra Gente Housing Justice Anthem — NYC SUNO STYLE BLOCK Bilingual NYC housing-justice anthem, 96 BPM; soulful Latin jazz piano, hard-hitting hip-hop drums, Loíza bomba barriles and congas, warm bass, cinematic strings, expressive male lead, powerful female Spanish vocals, community choir chants. Urgent, dignified, hopeful, street-level truth with an uplifting finale. No reggae, no soca. ⸻ [INTRO — Male Lead] New York City, listen up! Five boroughs, millions of dreams, A home is more than four walls and a lease. For the worker, the elder, the child and the family, Housing is dignity — housing is humanity. [VERSE 1 — Male Rap, English] They say thirty percent, let the formula decide, When your income climbs, your rent can climb beside it. You work another shift, you go and earn some more, But the same old broken elevator waits outside your door. Same leaks in the ceiling, same repairs delayed, Same hallway needs attention, same promises made. If the cost goes up, then explain what changed; Show the books, show the work, put the facts on the page. A thousand-dollar rent can weigh heavy on your chest, Especially when your paycheck barely lets you rest. Then the hours disappear, now your income’s running low, You need a fair adjustment and a clear path through the process. No shame in being broke, no shame in earning more, A family needs stability, not anxiety at the door. Let success mean progress, not a penalty for trying; Let hardship meet compassion, not a family left crying. [CHORUS — Male + Female + Community Choir] Keys to the city! ¡Llaves para la gente! A safe and stable home should be a right for every family. Open up the doors! ¡Que se abran los caminos! Put empty homes to work for our elders and our children. Fair rent, real repairs, let the people have a voice, Housing is a human need, not a luxury or choice. No one left behind, let the whole city rise! Dignity begins where a family can survive. Transitional housing, affordable homes, A pathway to stability, a place to call your own. For survivors, working families, people starting again, Make the system easier to navigate — let the help reach them. No pedimos privilegios, pedimos dignidad, Reglas claras, trato justo, responsabilidad. [BREAKDOWN — Bomba Barriles + Choir] ¡Bum, ba! ¡Bum, ba! ¿Quién necesita un hogar? — ¡Nuestra gente! ¿Qué pedimos hoy? — ¡Trato justo! ¿Qué queremos ver? — ¡Viviendas ocupadas! ¿Cómo se construye paz? — ¡Con familias cuidadas! [VERSE 3 — Male Rap, English] Count every vacancy — make the numbers clear, Separate a unit that’s available from one needing repair. Some need investment, some need work, Some need a plan so families aren’t left in the dirt. Publish the numbers, track the time, Show who’s responsible for each housing line. Make the application clearer, make the process fair, Give people honest answers when they’re waiting everywhere. And if the rent feels wrong, let the resident ask, Get a written explanation, get support with the facts. When income drops, learn the steps, report the change, A timely review can help a family stay. We can question policy without tearing people down, Residents and workers both belong in this town. Public service means service, let the evidence speak, Build a housing system that is fair to the people it keeps. [FINAL CHORUS — Full Duet + Choir] Keys to the city! ¡Llaves para la gente! A safe and stable home should be a right for every family. Open up the doors! ¡Que se abran los caminos! Turn housing into hope for our elders and our children. Fair rent, real repairs, let the people have a voice, Housing is a human need, not a luxury or choice. No one left behind, let the whole city rise! Dignity begins where a family can survive. A home, a chance, a place to start. From the Bronx to Staten Island, From Queens to Brooklyn, Manhattan too, A city is only strong when it makes room for you. Housing justice — dignity for all. Llaves para nuestra gente. A home for every family that calls New York home.
